2014 Painting as desire, from Suzanne’s storiesBrussels, 13 years ago I moved into a new studio entirely dedicated to painting. At that time I frequently visited a warehouse store in Brussels where, several times a week, household effects of all kinds were being dropped from houses being emptied. Furniture, dishes, decorations of all sorts. A wonderful place where one could fall upon marvelous treasures and give them a second life. One February late night, I am taken aback by a framed engraving in one of the boxes. I clearly recall recognising, without knowing why, something of the likes of Victorine Meurent’s gaze in the painting ’Le déjeuner sur l’herbe’ by Manet. Without hesitation I grab the frame, settle the bill with the cashier’s and hurry home to have a closer look with a magnifying glass... 2014 Un soir de février 2001, dans une caisse, je découvre une gravure encadrée qui me sidère. Dans cette gravure, immédiatement on remarque un regard. Sens de la visite : |
